Start with the recipient and the scroll
The case and the parchment scroll are separate items. A scroll is not included with these illuminated models. Before choosing a size, find out whether the recipient already has a scroll or plans to obtain one. For questions about the scroll itself or how to affix a mezuzah, consult a rabbi or a sofer, a Jewish scribe.
If the gift is a surprise, you can still check the required size and available doorway space without revealing the design you have chosen.
Compare the two case sizes
These measurements apply to the illuminated cases described here. The outside dimensions and the scroll size are different measurements, so check both.

For example, a 15 cm scroll will not fit the Small model. The Large model accommodates a scroll up to 15 cm, but its 26 cm outside height also needs to fit the available space on the doorframe. Do not judge the size from a product photograph alone.
Check the doorway, then choose the design
These models are intended for a covered entrance or lobby. They can be exposed to sun, but not to water or direct rain. Check the conditions at the actual doorway; an entrance being partly covered does not necessarily mean that rain cannot reach the case.
Once the size and location are suitable, consider the recipient's taste. Look at the colours of the door and frame, and compare the design both lit and unlit. A photograph of the entrance can help when discussing the choice. Keep people, house numbers and private details out of any photograph you share.
Understand the lighting features
